Report: Blyth Spartans 3 Rushall Olympic 0

It was a poor last away day for Rushall Olympic as they fell to a 3-0 defeat away at promotion hopefuls Blyth Spartans.

Rushall could have opened the scoring when Jack Duggan headed back across goal, but nobody in a Pics shirt could get a vital touch into the net.

Two quick first-half goals gave Rushall a mountain to climb. The first, on 19 minutes, came as Kieran Preston dwelled too long on a back pass and Daniel Maguire took the ball off him and tapped home.

Just three minutes later it was 2-0 as Sean Reid drove the ball in after good approach play from Blyth.

Kris Taylor forced a sprawling save from the Blyth keeper Adam McHugh and then Alex Reid tapped inches wide from a great position, and was grateful to see the offside flag up.

The visitors had a great chance to pull one back on the stroke of half-time as Duggan glanced Taylor's corner just wide of the target.

Andre Brown saw his shot slowed up via a deflection before Preston made a superb double save at the other end.

However, the game was wrapped up in the 64th minute when the ball was headed on to the post and Michael Richardson tapped in the rebound.

The Pics were denied a late consolation when McHugh pulled off an outstanding save to keep out Taylor's curling effort.
