Stourbridge improved their Evo-Stik Premier promotion prospects with a deserved win over dogged play-off rivals Darlington.

The Glassboys had to survive a severe defensive examination courtesy of Darlington's route one approach.

It was long-serving Leon Broadhurst who finally secured the winning outcome, lashing home a low, long-range shot inside the foot of the post to spark jubilant scenes of celebration.

Darlington had bombarded Stourbridge's defence with an aerial assault from the word go.

But Glassboys keeper Matthew Gould swept up everything and showed courage when diving into a ruck of flying boots to smother a Phil Turnbull free-kick.

Yet Stourbridge created two excellent chances – Karl Hawley sending Matt Dodd clean through only for the latter to sky his shot, and Joe Hull just failing to connect with a Broadhurst free-kick when unmarked in front of goal.

And the home side's breakthrough arrived on the hour when Hawley held up the ball and laid it off for Broadhurst's first-time 25-yarder.
