Two goals in three first-half minutes stunned the Boro who, were on the verge of breaking a post-war record of going 31successive home league games unbeaten.

Rangers manager Neil Kitching said: "We're bitterly disappointed to lose any game, but especially at home when we were trying to break that record.

"Kidsgrove took their chances and we didn't take ours. We didn't defend well as a team and if you don't do that you get punished.

"It was a bad day at the office and we've had a difficult week."

However, it looked very different for the Boro early on when Christian Dacres found himself through on goal and rattled the post with his effort as his side ran riot at goal.

But on 22 minutes they were caught out when Jordan Johnson disposed Levi Reid before firing home the opener.

It was 2-0 just three minutes later when the Boro failed to close down Ross Davidson, who fired through a crowded box and past goalkeeper Adam Whitehouse.

Rangers pushed forward in the second half and had several chances saved, before the visitors gave them a helping hand when Paul Taylor was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Kidsgrove stood their ground and secured their victory with a rare chance after when ex-Boro striker Nick Wellecomme beat the offside trap before slotting home on 74 minutes.
