Hednesford looking to find the right balance

Hednesford Town face the challenge of tightening up at the back to complement their new-look attacking potency, according to boss Frank Sinclair.

The Pitmen have scored an average of two goals per game since Sinclair's reign began in December.

But they have also leaked goals – early first and second-half strikes last Saturday against Harrogate Town saw the Keys Park side fall to a 3-2 defeat.

The former Albion defender said: "We're in the top 10 in the league for goals scored. I knew I inherited a good squad here. I didn't want to come in and make wholesale changes.

"The first 20 minutes killed us. And to concede a goal straight after half-time means it's over at 3-0.

"But the positive to take was the response, we matched them – if not bettered them – for the final half hour. The lads that came in and had debuts were our stand-out players."

Town host second-placed North Ferriby United, the National League North's top scorers, tomorrow. Former Premier League defender Sinclair will hope to call on the services of all four new charges.

Shelton Payne, Stephane Ngamvoulou and Jack Fitzwater, the latter on loan from Albion – impressed on his debut.

Any chance of taking the good form from last Saturday's second-half to the pivotal clash at AFC Telford United on Tuesday night was lost to the elements.

Sinclair's other addition, Jack Truelove – on loan from Oldham Athletic – is in line for a first start.

He said: "I was able to speak to Stephane's former managers at Whitehawk and Staines, so knew what he was all about.

"He's a big physical box-to-box midfielder and took his goal very well.

"I know how good Shelton is from working together before and if it wasn't for a brilliant save he would've scored more than once.

"Jack was fantastic from start to finish. We had to reshuffle and he was out of his comfort zone but he handled it terrifically."

The Pitmen have also been boosted by the loan extension of Chester forward Tom Peers.
