Harriers boss 'humbled' by fan support
Boss Dave Hockaday admits to feeling 'humbled' by the support Kidderminster Harriers supporters are giving his team despite their miserable start to the season.
Harriers host Woking at Aggborough tomorrow, still searching for their first win of the season after 19 games.
They are looking to rebound following last Saturday's 3-0 FA Cup exit at Stourbridge, the club's worst result in recent memory.
Despite their club sitting bottom of the National League Premier, support at both home and away matches has remained consistent.
And Hockaday – who took over as head coach earlier this month – claims it has added to his determination to turn things around.
He said: "It is not easy to be a Kidderminster Harriers fan at this time yet their support has been incredible. It's very humbling and I'm determined to do all I can to reward their loyalty.
"I have been in the game for 41 years now and the only loyalty in it is from the fans."
Tomorrow's visitors are not without their own problems, after making their entire playing squad available for loan following their own FA Cup exit to Maidenhead United.
Yet that still pales in comparison to the troubles facing Hockaday.
He must seek to mould a collection of young and largely-inexperienced players into a unit capable of competing in non-league's top flight.
He said: "I do feel for the players. After last week's performance I was angry and frustrated with them, but I also feel sorry for them.
"We are not giving them a stable platform from which to develop and settle down and that is what I need to try and create.
"Everyone is determined, we will roll our sleeves up. I don't want anyone feeling sorry or embarrassed for us. I'm confident we will get things right."
