No easy ride for Pics at hit-for-six hosts

Rushall Olympic manager Richard Sneekes is not expecting an easy ride away to Stamford tonight.

Their hosts were hit for six at Nantwich Town on the opening day of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League season.

The former Albion playmaker said: "They will want to make sure they shore up their defence and start their home campaign with a bang. We are on our guard and in no doubt it will be a difficult game."

The Pics got off to a flyer with Kris Taylor and Alex Reid netting in a 2-0 victory over Ramsbottom United on Saturday.

And Sneekes is pleased with his striking options, despite losing top scorer Aaron Williams to Nuneaton Town in the summer.

Reid, Malachi Farquharson and former Stourbridge man Luke Benbow are among those battling to be involved up front.

He said: "From having one striker last year, we've suddenly got several options – from my perspective it's great."

New-look Halesowen Town will hope to build on their fantastic opening-day victory at recently-relegated Colwyn Bay, when they face a recently-promoted side in Mickleover Sports tonight (also 7.45pm).

Twelve new players were involved for the Yeltz on Saturday, including eight from the start.

Manager John Hill said: "It could take us four or five games to get to know each other football-wise, because that team I put out Saturday have never played together before."

In the First Division South, Tividale will look to bounce back quickly from a heart-breaking opening-day defeat to Shaw Lane Aquaforce when they visit Newcastle Town tonight (7.45pm).

Goals in the 88th and 89th minutes condemned Tivi to a 2-1 defeat, after Chris Rabone had goven them a 74th-minute lead.

Chasetown and Stafford Rangers will look to build on victories from Saturday when they return to the field tonight (both 7.45pm).

The Scholars host Kidsgrove Athletic, while Boro welcome Romulus to Marston Road.

In National League North, Hednesford Town return to Keys Park tonight (7.45pm) hoping home comforts will be kind to them.

Dominic Knowles condemned them to their second consecutive away defeat at Harrogate Town on Saturday, but the Pitmen did win their home opener against Stalybridge Celtic on August 8.
