Halesowen Town striker Ben Haseley is racing to make his own honeymoon after suffering a serious eye injury in action for the Yeltz just days before his wedding.

The Cannock-based hitman was undergoing more hospital tests today after being hit in the eye with a ball during the Halesowen's 2-0 win at home to Kidsgrove on Tuesday.

His marriage to fiancee Lisa Roberts in Cannock tomorrow will go ahead but Haseley is still awaiting the all-clear from doctors to fly to their honeymoon in the Caribbean on Wednesday.

Yeltz chairman Colin Brookes said: "It was the most freak injury you will ever see. He was just closing down the Kidsgrove goalkeeper, who cleared the ball and it whacked Ben straight in the eye.

"There was loads of swelling and bleeding straight away and his future father-in-law took him straight to New Cross Hospital after the game.

"They said there was nothing they could do until the swelling went down so he's been back a couple of times since but they're not sure if there has been any damage to the eye itself.

"The wedding is going ahead, so that is good news, but they're due to fly out for their honeymoon on Wednesday, and he's waiting to make sure he's OK to fly.

"The doctors have said if they can't say for sure today, he can go back on Monday and again on Tuesday. They've been great and they're doing everything they can to make sure he can go on his honeymoon."

Haseley, who works for an engineering firm in Cannock, scored 42 goals for the Yeltz last season in his first year at The Grove. And he has already hit 22 this term, including one in Tuesday's game moments before he suffered the injury.

Brookes said: "It's sod's law that this should happen a couple of days before his wedding. We knew we were going to miss him for three games. We just all hope he's OK."

The Yeltz travel to Newcastle Town in the Northern League Division One South tomorrow with striker Chris Lait (groin) and midfielder Jean-Michel Guyes (ankle) injured and forward Nigel Penney suspended.
