Stourbridge's Drew Canavan hurt in cup tie
Stourbridge crashed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 5-0 home defeat to a young Wolves side – and had midfielder Drew Canavan stretchered off in the process.
The visitors were too strong for a home side who also gave a chance to a number of fringe players.
But Canavan's injury, from a challenge by Ryan Rainey 10 minutes from time, will be of most concern before the FA Cup trip to Dover Athletic.
Glassboys goalkeeper Charlie Price did well to keep out Aaron Simpson's shot on 23 minutes, but was helpless to prevent Wolves' opener three minutes later.
Dan Armstrong's corner picked out French youth international Sylvain Deslandes, one of those to be handed a chance in the first team, and he powered his header into the net from 10 yards.
The visitors doubled their lead on 37 minutes from another corner. Deslandes' header was cleared off the line by Lewis McPike, but Regan Upton drilled the rebound home from 12 yards.
Stourbridge's best chance of the half came a minute before the break.
Canavan cut in from the right, before whipping in a low shot which goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne did well to shepherd around the post.
But the second-half was just 65 seconds old when Callum Harris curled a free-kick beyond Price for Wolves' third.
Then the goalkeeper did well to keep out a Declan Weeks penalty, following a trip on Mekhi Leacock-McLeod.
Two goals wrapped up the tie, Donovan Wilson firing home from the edge of the area, with substitute Bright Enobakhare wrapping up the proceedings 13 minutes from the end.
Canavan was carried off soon after – a sad postscript to the defeat.
