Tough call for Harriers on Reece Styche
Boss Dave Hockaday insists struggling Kidderminster Harriers must continue to make 'tough decisions' with Reece Styche the latest senior player set to exit.
The striker is understood to be on the verge of a loan move to Macclesfield Town, as cash-strapped and winless Harriers look to free up funds.
His exit follows that of fellow forward Callum Hassan, who departed earlier this week after the club admitted they 'weren't in a position' to offer a deal to the 22-year-old, who had joined under non-contract terms.
It also creates a further headache for Hockaday, who has spent the week trying to lift morale after last weekend's chastening 3-0 defeat to Stourbridge in the FA Cup.
But the head coach insists such decisions are for the good of the club, saying: "We have to balance the books and we are having to take tough decisions.
"Nobody is making these decisions because they want to but they are necessary."
Hockaday, appointed earlier this month, is eager to bolster his playing squad but admits he has 'no money' to play with.
Harriers, bottom of the National League Premier, host Woking at Aggborough on Saturday still searching for their first three points of the campaign.
He said: "Agents are phoning up and telling us about players they have available and we just have to tell them we don't have anything.
"People have to be realistic but at the same time I don't want people to be feeling sorry for us.
"I knew what I was taking on, I knew the financial situation and I knew it was going to be tough. We've got to stick together – we will turn this around."
Meanwhile, Hockaday admitted Kidderminster's FA Cup defeat at Stourbridge has left him unable to sleep.
Last Saturday's 3-0 loss in the fourth qualifying round saw Harriers' miserable campaign fall to a new low, as they were comprehensively beaten by a team from two divisions below.
He said: "I didn't sleep over the weekend and I would like to think none of my players slept either. No-one is more angry than me.
"It's my team and I am the one who has to do something about it."
