The home side started brightly and inside three minutes Jono Gould warmed the gloves of goalkeeper Jake Turner with an effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Waite was next to try his luck, with a shot which Turner pushed to safety.

In a one-sided first half, Richard Davies burst into the box but again Turner was equal to the shot, parrying it away.

The Scholars finally broke through in the 38th minute when a superb run from Stan Mugisha opened up the visiting defence and Waite swept the ball home from around the penalty spot.

The Gingerbreads' first serious goal attempt came at the start of the second half with a curling free-kick from Danny Meadows that John Bateman dealt with confidently.

The chances continued to come thick and fast and Ryan Wynter and Gould combined inside the area only for Turner to dive to his right and deny Wynter.

Chasetown eventually doubled their lead midway through the half. Mugisha and Wynter teed up Davies whose shot was blocked by Turner but Waite netted the rebound.

Patient build-up work from the home side saw Waite complete his hat-trick with a header from a James Dance cross.
