Wayne Daniel, in his first home game since hitting the 400-match mark for Stafford Rangers, headed a memorable winner.
The Boro were pegged back twice by the visitors who played themselves into the Evo-Stik Division One South match, before Daniel's 64th-minute goal secured the win.
Rangers manager Neil Kitching said: "It's Shoota's day today, his first game at home since his 400 appearances and it was fate that he'd get the goal from a set-piece.
"We've challenged the lads to go 10 league games unbeaten and put 24 or 26 points on the board and see where that takes us."
Ben Haseley had two early chances before a long kick from keeper Adam Whitehouse found the marksman. He turned both centre-backs before firing home the opener in the 29th minute.
However, Sheffield levelled eight minutes later when a hopeful ball into the box was headed home by captain Stuart Ludlam.
It took Rangers just two minutes to regain the lead; from a good team move Ryan Edmunds headed home from close range.
Sheffield looked a different side in the second half and got their reward when James Gregory held the ball up for Shaquille McKenzie to score. But it was to be Daniel's day.
