Yeltz search for consistency after early ups and downs

Halesowen Town chairman Colin Brookes is looking for the side to improve their consistency as they gear up for another huge week of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League action.

The Yeltz welcome former Football League side Darlington 1883 tomorrow before heading to Matlock Town on Tuesday – both occupy places in the top three of the early standings.

A morale-boosting win over well-fancied Workington was followed with a disappointing display in defeat at Sutton Coldfield Town and it is those type of up and down displays that Brookes believes boss John Hill is looking to improve on.

He said: "We put in a very good performance against Workington but followed it up being very ordinary at Sutton – and that's being mild.

"It's been a bit of the story of the season so far but I know John is working very hard to put things right.

"He's looking at improving the squad. We're a small squad a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

"Chris Westwood missed Sutton with a calf problem. That takes its toll when you are missing your experienced lads.

"We've got six points from six games and winning games at this point shoots you up the table.

"Darlington are an ex-pro club and have a big following. It's also non-league day so we're looking to have a boosted gate and put on a good show."

Town chief Hill made his feelings known on social media after the disappointing defeat at newly-promoted Sutton Coldfield.

He tweeted: "Today's was a case of man against boys literally. We have a few young lads and today came to quickly after Saturday. I take full responsibility.

The boss also shared potential transfer business with a former hero.

"I have been in touch with Eldon (Maquemba) tonight. You never know he may be back at the Grove in the near future."

Brookes hopes Westwood will return from his knock tomorrow but the Yeltz are still without experienced midfielder Danny Bragoli and wideman Ashley Parsons-Smith.
