Smith and assistant Larry Chambers have both left the Pitmen in order to return to the New Bucks Head, where they were previously in charge between 2006 and 2010.

The Bucks confirmed their appointments this morning to replace boss Steve Kittrick, who was sacked on Sunday just five games into the season, and No 2 Chris Holland with the team bottom of the table.

Since departing from Shropshire, Smith has spent five years in charge at Keys Park, recording 151 wins in 271 games during his time at the helm.

Hednesford reluctantly accepted their resignations, a statement saying: "It's with regret that we have to announce that they have departed."
