After just six minutes, Karl Hawley ran onto a flick by Matt Dodd, but took the ball wide in going past goalkeeper Alex Mitchell.

The visitors' shot-stopper recovered and saved to his left. Drew Canavan had a shot turned round the post by Mitchell.

But Workington then went close when Conor Tinnion teed up Matt Tymon who brought a spectacular save from goalkeeper Lewis Solly.

Stourbridge: Solly; Green, Scarr, Tonks, Smikle (Morgan-Parker 66), Pierpoint, Dodd, Broadhurst, Hawley, Chilton (Harris 74), Canavan.

The crucial moments came on 48 minutes. First Dodd shot straight at Mitchell with the goal at his mercy.

Then he got to the right byline and was clipped a foot outside the box by Kyle May, only for a penalty to be awarded. Dodd's spot-kick lacked power and Mitchell saved well to his left.

Stourbridge had chances, but were holding their breath at the end when Reds substitute James Earl's volley smashed off the top of the bar.

It came to the chagrin of the 30-odd visiting fans behind the goal who had offered raucous backing throughout.
