Rob Smith tells the Pitmen to tighten up

Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith has called for his team to cut out their defensive errors ahead of tomorrow's trip to North Ferriby United.

The Pitmen produced their best performance of the season in Tuesday's thrilling draw with Corby Town at Keys Park.

They raced into a 2-0 lead, but defensive lapses proved costly as an astonishing nine-minute hat-trick from Kabongo Tshimanga turned the game on its head.

Hednesford rallied to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw thanks to Nathan Modest's leveller.

But Smith warned that if the defensive mistakes weren't eradicated the team would be looking at the bottom half of the table instead of the top half.

He said: "It was a comical 10 minutes by us. Cutting out mistakes at the back has been the message for weeks now, we haven't defended badly but the individual errors have cost us.

"It's a new team and we're a work in progress, but the first-half was as good as I've seen us play for a long time, so the potential is obviously there."

Hednesford won 2-0 at North Ferriby last season, but Smith said he was under no illusions that it would be a tough game. He added: "If we reproduce the first-half on Tuesday, we'll do well."
