Totney elated at Tipton role
Tipton Town's new boss Paul Totney has admitted he is 'still pinching himself' after landing his dream job at the helm of the Tipton Sports Academy side.
The former Smethwick Rangers man was speaking just hours before the decision was made that Tipton would be competing in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division after their relegation from the Midlands Premier Division last season.
But Totney insisted the club's ethos would remain the same.He said: "Regardless of what division we'll be playing in, we want to win, we want to keep the squad together that did so well in the second half of last season under Nick."
Nick Pugh came close to pulling the side away from the drop zone after a dreadful start to last season, but it was announced he was leaving the club for personal reasons on Sunday.
"I'm still pinching myself, it hasn't really sunk in, I'm a local guy and to me and my family this decision means the world," he added.
"Pughy recommended me after the backroom work I did there last season, which is nice of him, it's still a bit of a whirlwind, but I'd have been stupid to say no.
"I would've been kicking myself for the rest of his life if I didn't take it - I'm really proud and absolutely made up."
Totney revealed the man he replaced still has playing ambitions - and has even offered to sign forms for the season.
