Keys Park celebrated a decade since the greatest moment in the club's history when defender Brindley scored the winner while serving as player-assistant manager. Brindley had earlier put through his own net to put Canvey Island ahead at Villa Park, but popped up at the other end put the Pitmen 3-2 ahead with just four minutes to go.

It remains the finest moment in the club's history.

And Brindley, born and bred from the area and publican of the Cross Keys just a short walk from the ground, said it was great to see his old team-mates and former boss Barry Powell.

He said: "It was a real good night, there was only one or two from the original squad that didn't turn up and it was great to remember it all over again.

"It's my home-town club, so to score the winner in that game has to go down as my greatest moment as a player.

"It was a fantastic day for everyone involved with Hednesford. It's hard to think it's already been a decade, but the memories certainly haven't been forgotten. It's something the club should celebrate."

Despite missing the showpiece through suspension, club captain Steve Palmer has fond memories as Hednesford beat the likes of Aldershot to reach the final.

"There were games during that cup run, let alone the final which was dramatic in itself, that really do stick in the mind of all the players and to be able to get together after a decade as a squad is fantastic," said Palmer, now manager at AFC Wulfrunians.

"It is very difficult to stay in touch with every former team-mate, so it was a really special occasion."
