Deadline day signing Axel Disasi explains why he chose Aston Villa move

Disasi became Villa’s fifth and final signing of the transfer window when he completed a loan move from Chelsea in the early hours of Tuesday morning. 

The 26-year-old France international centre-back chose to join Villa for the rest of the season over Tottenham, who had also agreed terms with Chelsea for his signature.

And Disasi explained how speaking to Emery made it clear he couldn’t go anywhere else.

“He (Emery) played a big part, because he explained to me the way that he sees things with me,” Disasi told Villa TV.

“Obviously, we all know the work that he makes is very great. When I spoke with him, he trusted in me. Straight after I hung up the phone, on my mind it was clear that I wanted to come here.

“He was clear, and he knows what he wants from me. That is very important.

“The way that I was speaking with the coach and the sporting director, they make me feel safe, and the way I was talking with them, it was very clear and very good.

“They were trusting in me also, so all of this made my decision to come here.”

Villa struck a deal with Chelsea late on Monday evening, with both clubs submitting deal sheets in time for the move to be completed after the 11pm deadline.

Disasi said: “The deal is done. It was stressful but now I am very happy to be here. It is past.”

The former Monaco star, who is cup-tied for Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham, is hopeful of featuring for Villa in the Champions League, albeit Uefa rules state clubs can only register three new signings in their squad.

“It will be my first time that I play Champions League, so I’m very excited about it,” Disasi said.

“I know also that the club is very ambitious, and me as well, so I hope that we will do something great.

“That’s why also I signed here. I’m ambitious as well. I didn’t have a limit, and I just want to go as high as possible. I will give everything to put the club there.”
