The defender was forced off 20 minutes into Villa’s 2-2 draw against Brighton on Monday, with a scan later confirming he had suffered a break to the fourth metatarsal in his right foot.

Torres is now set to be absent until March and will miss crucial matches in both the Premier League and Champions League.

“He broke his fourth metatarsal and is going to be out, more or less, for two months,” explained Emery.

Villa’s defensive options for Saturday’s visit of Leicester City are further limited by a “small injury” sustained by Diego Carlos which will keep him sidelined.

Tyrone Mings is poised to start just his second Premier League match since returning from long-term injury.

Villa will also be without winger Jaden Philogene against the Foxes due to injury, with Emery confirming the 22-year-old could depart on loan during the January transfer window.

Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers are both suspended for the clash, the latter having picked up his fifth booking of the season in the draw with Brighton.
