Ross Barkley’s second goal of the season salvaged a point but Villa saw their winless run in all competitions extend to six matches on a frustrating afternoon.
Though the hosts twice rallied after going behind, they were also guilty of making basic defensive errors, while Youri Tielemans also missed a penalty.
Ismaila Sarr fired Palace ahead inside four minutes after being sent through on goal, with Justin Devenny restoring their advantage after Ollie Watkins had levelled.
Devenny’s goal came just two minutes after Tielemans had been denied from the spot by visiting goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Emery said: “We are losing some opportunities. We are conceding a few chances for the opponent and making some mistakes.
"We were not getting three points but deserving here at home more or less to win. We played well against Arsenal, Bournemouth, Man United and here and we played well. But we are making mistakes and they are punishing us.
“We are not getting points like we deserved. There is still work to do. We are really convinced this is the way we played here at home this year in the Premier League, not getting three points but deserving in each match, more or less, to win.”
Palace’s second goal was reminiscent of that conceded by Villa in their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool prior to the international break, as they were hit on the counter attack from their own corner.
Emery claimed his team had worked to correct the mistakes made at Anfield but they were again caught cold.
“We conceded one against Liverpool and we worked to try to correct it,” he said. “Even like that we made this mistake today.
“Overall, we had more chances and we dominated the match. We didn’t concede a lot from them. Every team has good players with a game plan.
“Their momentum was clinical and we have to correct details. We have to play against teams like today, Manchester United and Bournemouth knowing how we responded over 90 minutes to get more points.”
