A mix of pride and missed chances for Aston Villa boss Unai Emery
Unai Emery believes Villa blew a chance to solidify their top seven credentials with Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Goals from Ola Aina and Orel Malanga early in each half condemned Villa to a first Premier League loss in more than two months.
Emery’s men remain fifth in the table but missed the chance to climb into the top four and the boss, who has consistently played down their Champions League credentials, rued the failure to maintain or further open the gap to rivals below.
Newcastle now sit just two points behind Villa in fifth and Emery said: “Today was a key moment if we could really be a contender to be in the top seven teams. We lost the opportunity, but I believe in the players.
