The 18-year-old striker’s 12th minute penalty proved to be decisive as Villa’s under-18s beat Liverpool 2-1 to lift the trophy for the fourth time in club history.

Ben Chrisene had earlier fired the hosts ahead in front of 4,750 supporters at Villa Park.

But though Villa dominated large portions of the match, they were made to sweat after Seb Revan’s 73rd minute own goal halved their advantage.

Young said: “Me and the lads are going out tonight! It is unbelievable. We were dreaming from the first game against Reading. Since then we have been battering teams but this was a good challenge.

“I don’t feel any pressure from the penalty spot. The coaches go mad at me for doing the jumping. I’m a Villa fan myself. It feels amazing, we have done it for our fans, ourselves and our families.”

Under-18s boss Sean Verity was soaked with an ice bucket by his players following the final whistle.

He said: “The lads said they had something planned if we win. If that is all it was, I am alright with it!

“The first half was an unbelievable performance. We created loads of good chances.

“The second half showed character. Hopefully this is not the end of the journey for them.

“How are my nerves? Well, I haven’t got any hair and that is probably just as well. I am 54 years old and felt 154 in the last five minutes.

“The club has a different feel to it now. Christian Purslow was behind me in the second half and I could hear him shouting after the lads. If you have that from the top you never know what can happen. This club is going places.”
