Emiliano Martinez

Saved smartly from Mason Greenwood in the first half but will feel he should have done better with the goal, after being beaten at his near post.

Beaten 6

Matty Cash

Another confident performance from the right-back, who overcame a shaky start. Alert to danger and an outlet for Villa on the right during the first half.

Solid 6

Ezri Konsa

After a couple of uncertain performances, this was much more like it from the young centre-back. Has the happy knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Steady 7

Tyrone Mings

The England international hasn’t always had the best of it against United and this was another encounter which saw him at least slightly at fault for a goal.

Turned 6

Matt Targett

A useful outlet on the left for Villa in the first half, just as he has tended to be all season. Without question the most improved player from last year. Difficult to recall him having a bad game.

Strong 7

John McGinn

Very good in the first half when he used the ball well. Less effective in the second half but probably Villa’s most consistent performer over the whole 90 minutes. A player in form.

Bright 7

Douglas Luiz

A tale of two halves. The first was probably his most impressive performance in several months as he looked confident on the ball. The second was all about his needless challenge on Pogba.

Naive 5

Bertrand Traore

Suddenly looks a player brimming with confidence and energy again. Was already heavily involved before scoring a terrific goal. Less effective in the second half.

Sharp 7

Ross Barkley

Came into the game more as the first half wore on after a somewhat difficult start. The Chelsea loanee used the ball well as times but not as effective or as threatening as he was at Everton.

Subdued 6

Anwar El Ghazi

Another who enjoyed a far better first half than he did second. Looked lively before the break but sent a shot straight at United goalkeeper Dean Henderson from a good position shortly after. Proved a big moment. as United were soon level.

Quiet 5

Ollie Watkins

Caused United’s defence endless trouble with his running. Ultimately showed too much enthusiasm as he was booked for fouling Maguire and then shown a second yellow for diving.

Dismissed 6

Substitutes

Jacob Ramsey 6 (for Luiz, 65), Keinan Davis (for Barkley, 78), Wesley (for El Ghazi, 78).

Subs not used: Elmohamady, Hause, Nakamba, Philogene-Bidace, Chukwuemeka, Heaton.
