Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins aiming for next bracket

Villa striker Ollie Watkins claims to be far from satisfied despite an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Watkins has scored 10 goals in his maiden top flight campaign following a club record £28million move from Brentford last summer.

The 25-year-old’s form has seen him touted for a possible England call-up when Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate announced his squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers today.

But Watkins believes he is still capable of much better and is targeting a strong finish to the season.

He said: “I’m always thinking about the next thing. I never really settle and I’m never content. That can also be a bad thing because I’m quite harsh on myself, but also I can’t stop until I get where I want to be.

“I look back and use it as motivation to say, ‘I don’t really want to be back there, I want to keep pushing forward.’

“I just want to get as close to the 20-goal mark as possible. I think it puts you in another bracket when you are talking about a 20-goal a season man. I want to get as close to that as possible. We will see what happens.”
