Dean Smith is sent-off by referee Jon Moss.

The FA handed down the penalty after Smith, who has also been fined £8,000, admitted a charge of using abusive or insulting language toward the match officials in Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Smith was sent-off by referee Jon Moss after first receiving a yellow card for asking whether the officials had “received juggling balls for Christmas?” before then making another remark.

The Villa boss had been furious at the circumstances which led to City’s 79th minute opener, when Tyrone Mings was dispossessed by a player coming back from an offside position.

Villa will be without John McGinn against Newcastle after the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the season against City.

But Egyptian winger Trezeguet is back available after recovering from a hamstring injury, while Matt Targett has been passed fit after coming off late on Wednesday night.
