Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow praises midfield pairing
Chief Executive Christian Purslow has heaped praise on midfield duo John McGinn and Douglas Luiz for their part in Villa’s impressive start to the season.
The pair have been at the heart of the club’s success which sees them sit just three points off the top four with a game in hand.
“We’ve had a good start to the season and the mood reflects that,” Purslow said to TalkSport.
“We have a very good group of players around Dean (Smith) and his team and it’s a very good time to be an Aston Villa player.
“There’s a great team spirit amongst all of them and we’re delighted about that.
“Aston Villa paid £3million for John in the summer of 2018 and a big shout out to Steve Bruce because he was the manager at the time – it’s not the first time he’s bought very well in Scotland.
“John has developed into an outstanding midfield player across a range of positions.
“In the promotion-winning campaign he played in a more advanced role and now he’s playing in a more deep-lying role alongside Douglas Luiz.
“He can play anywhere across the midfield, he’s a hugely important player for us. He (Luiz) is under the radar and he’s a very young player.
“In the last international break he started both games for the Brazil first team. This is a player of pedigree and I’m glad he’s under the radar.
“We think he’s a great player.”
