Leicester City 0 Aston Villa 1 - Player ratings
See how we rated the Aston Villa players in their 1-0 win at Leicester.
Emiliano Martinez
Made himself big to keep out Castagne after he found space down the right and reacted well after a Tielemans shot took a nick off Mings. Martinez will happily take the clean sheet – and the three points.
Safe hands. 7
Matty Cash
Did well to deny Praet going clear, but was cautioned for pulling down Barnes in the first half. An obvious, cynical foul which saw Cash on a bit of a tightrope for the rest of the game. Saw it through in the end though.
Kept cool. 7
Ezri Konsa
A good chance fell to the defender as he got in front of Justin, but could only head wide. Villa got their winner, though, and he never looked in danger defensively.
Solid. 7
Tyrone Mings
Asked very few questions by Iheanacho and was not troubled by replacement Slimani either. A pretty straightforward night.
Comfortable. 7
Matt Targett
Involved in the nice counter-attack which led to Trezeguet going close as he calmly controlled McGinn’s crossfield pass and fed Grealish. Saw a free-kick fly over the bar and did his bit in keeping the Foxes at bay.
Steady showing. 7
Douglas Luiz
Saw a fair amount of the ball and mostly kept it safe and simple. Could have taken a few more risks and also should have done better from the edge of the box when he shot straight at Schmeichel.
Played safe. 6
John McGinn
Put himself about in the middle of the park and played that nice ball to Targett. A bit loose as he picked up a booking for a foul on Barnes, though. Should have found Trezeguet on what was a promising counter-attack.
Bit loose. 6
Ross Barkley
Showed great character and ability to win it for Villa with a cracking strike from long range right at the death. After all, Barkley was mostly crowded out before that. Mendy did a very good job on him but the Chelsea loanee had the last laugh with his moment of magic.
Cracker. 7
Trezeguet
Had to take the shot quickly after that nice passage of play in the first half, feeling he took a kick from Justin in the process. Plenty of running, but his involvement gradually decreased as the game went on.
Pretty quiet. 6
Ollie Watkins
Did not have a great deal of service. Saw a bit more of it later on and forced Evans into hacking him down for a booking. On the whole though, a very quiet night.
Short of service. 6
Jack Grealish
Made his presence felt for Villa with his trademark dribbles although slightly indecisive at times. Played a delightful back-heel to Targett and was a big threat as Villa kept up their hot streak.
Threat. 7
Subs
Bertrand Traore (for Trezeguet, 81) 6. Not used: Steer (gk), Engels, Elmohamady, Hourihane, Nakamba, El Ghazi.
