Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish 'emotional' after realising England dream
Jack Grealish admitted he was 'emotional' as he earned his first England appearance during the Three Lions' 0-0 draw with Denmark in the Nations League.
Grealish was introduced as a substitute late in the second half, putting in a solid performance during limited time on the pitch in what was ultimately an underwhelming night for the Three Lions.
He was brought on as part of a front three alongside Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane, as four players made their senior international debuts for England in Conor Coady, Kalvin Phillips, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Grealish.
Gareth Southgate's side struggled to find cohesion going forward during the game, and only crafted their first real chance in added time - with Harry Kane seeing his shot cleared off the line.
Grealish admitted that he was emotional as he earned his first appearance for his country - having committed his allegiance to England having previously declared for the Republic of Ireland at youth level.
"I was actually a bit emotional. It's something that you dream of, every child in England dreams of playing for England."
"I was so privileged, coming on - it's a shame we couldn't get the win in the end.
"I just want to thank Gareth [Southgate] himself for giving me the opportunity and hopefully it's the first of many."
