The 23-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours after the clubs agreed an initial fee of £14m, with potentially another £2m in add-ons, following several days of negotiation.

Villa turned their attention to Cash having failed in an ambitious attempt to prise England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

They have now seen off competition from Fulham and Sheffield United for a player who excelled for Forest in the Championship last season.

Cash flourished after converting from a winger into a full-back and Villa boss Dean Smith believes he will add some much-needed pace to his team.

Smith is also keen to strengthen in attack with talks ongoing with Bournemouth and Brentford over Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins respectively.

Villa are attempting to agree deals for both players, ideally before they begin their Premier League campaign at home to Sheffield United on September 19.

Bournemouth are expected to demand around £20m for Wilson, though Villa face competition from Newcastle, who are willing to offer Matt Ritchie as part of the deal.

Smith also wants to bring in a goalkeeper, midfielder and another winger prior to the window shutting next month.
