Dean Smith had originally planned to continue group training following last week’s suspension of the Premier League until at least the first weekend in April.

But developments over the past few days have prompted a rethink with Villa eager to prioritise the health and well-being of players and staff.

Players have been given individual training programmes to carry out at home, while the decision to close Bodymoor will be reviewed at the start of next week.

For the moment, Villa are scheduled to return to action when they host Wolves on April 4, with the club still selling extra tickets to season ticket holders despite the likelihood the fixture will eventually be postponed.

All 20 top flight clubs are due to meet on Thursday to begin discussions on how best to resolve a season which for now remains in limbo.
