Aston Villa waiting on fixtures to be rescheduled

Villa are still waiting on new dates for Premier League matches against Sheffield United and Newcastle with the club facing a possible late season fixture pile-up.

The home clash with the Blades was originally scheduled for last weekend but postponed due to Villa’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final.

Newcastle’s progress through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup means Villa’s trip to the north-east, originally scheduled for March 21, also needs to be rearranged.

Though clubs are involved in discussions over rescheduling, the final decision is made by the Premier League and they are yet to determine new dates for either match.

At least one of the fixtures will now take place after the forthcoming international break.

One benefit for relegation-threatened Villa may be the availability of midfielder John McGinn for more matches than originally expected.

The influential Scot, who has not featured since suffering a fractured ankle in late December, had been targeting the Newcastle fixture as a potential return date.

Villa, 19th in the table, return to action when they visit third-placed Leicester on Monday night.
