Villa, 19th in the table, resume their fight against relegation when they travel to third-placed Leicester City on Monday, aiming to halt a three-match losing streak in the top flight.

Dean Smith’s men head into the match off the back of an encouraging performance in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Their display at Wembley followed a dire outing at Southampton the previous weekend and Nyland conceded they must start finding some consistency.

“We showed everyone what we are about on Sunday and made it tough for City,” said Nyland.

“If we play like that we have a chance to beat everyone we are playing. We have to try to replicate it.

“It is going to be hard but we have shown what we are about now. It is time to show it every week and stay consistent.”

Boss Smith must decide whether to stick with Nyland in goal after the keeper produced another impressive showing at Wembley.

The Norwegian international, who produced heroics in Villa’s semi-final win over Leicester, has been forced to play second fiddle to Pepe Reina in the Premier League following the Spaniard’s arrival on loan from Milan in January.

Nyland said: “I more or less knew I was starting (at Wembley) the whole week really. It was my week and I had the chance to draw things up the way I wanted.

“The manager said the performance was really good and he was proud of us. Now it is about doing it every weekend and making sure we stay in the Premier League.

“We were hard to beat and that is how it should be every week.

“It is as important as goals really, when you put your body on the line and block what potentially could be a goal against it is massive. We need to make sure we do it every week.”
