Aston Villa's Trezeguet: Playing Manchester City like facing 22 men

Wing ace Trezeguet expects Villa to be on the limit in next month’s Carabao Cup final – after claiming facing Manchester City is like playing 22 men.

The Egyptian international’s stoppage-time winner in last month’s semi-final with Leicester sent the club to their first major final for five years.

But they must somehow find a way of getting past the reigning Premier League champions in the March 1 Wembley showpiece. City have already beaten Villa twice this season, including a 6-1 drubbing at Villa Park.

Trezeguet said: “Playing against Manchester City is very difficult and exhausting. You feel that you’re up against 22 players on the pitch. Of course, winning the cup with Aston Villa is a huge dream.”

The 25-year-old and his team-mates will return to training on Monday after a week off for their winter break, when attentions will turn to the visit of Tottenham on February 16.

Villa, 17th in the table, could find themselves back in the relegation zone depending on results elsewhere this weekend.

Deadline day signing Borja Baston has been added to the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

The Spaniard was signed on a short-term deal until the end of the season as cover after having his contract at Swansea cancelled.

But he could quickly find himself involved against Spurs, depending on the severity of the injury suffered by Keinan Davis while playing for the under-23s this week.
