The 27-year-old Spaniard has joined on a free transfer, after agreeing a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Baston, whose contract with the Welsh club was due to expire in the summer, has been brought in as back-up to Mbwana Samatta and Keinan Davis.

Villa have been desperate to bolster their forward line following the season-ending knee injury suffered by record signing Wesley.

Samatta joined from Genk in an £8.5million deal midway through the month, while Davis has recently returned from a three month lay-off with a hamstring injury.

Baston scored just one goal in 18 Premier League appearances for the Swans after joining in an £15.5million deal from Eibar in the summer of 2016.

He then spent two seasons back in Spain on loan with Malaga and Alaves, before returning to Wales for the start of the current season.

Baston netted six goals in his first nine Championship appearances this term but has not scored since September 28.

He is well known to Villa sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch from his time at Atletico Madrid.
