Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland dreaming of Wembley start following stunning Carabao Cup showing
Villa hero Orjan Nyland is dreaming of a date at Wembley after hailing his best performance yet for the club in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup thriller with Leicester.
The Norway international produced three stunning first-half saves before Dean Smith’s men went on to secure a 3-2 aggregate semi-final victory over the Foxes, courtesy of Trezeguet’s stoppage time winner.
Nyland, who also impressed in the first leg of the tie, had been recalled to the team after losing his place to new signing Pepe Reina for the previous two Premier League matches.
The 29-year-old is now hopeful he will get the nod when Villa head to Wembley for the final on March 1.
He said: “I hope to play at Wembley now. Was it my best performance for Villa? Definitely, I think so. It was my best one the last time we played Leicester, in the first leg. To come out and do it again was amazing.”
Nyland twice denied James Maddison in the opening 10 minutes before then tipping a Youri Tielemans drive, which looked destined for the top corner, onto the bar.
Reina, who had not trained since Villa’s 2-1 win over Watford a week previously due to a tight calf, is expected to be fit for Saturday’s Premier League six-pointer at Bournemouth.
