Aston Villa's Lovre Kalinic secures Toulouse loan deal

Villa goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic has joined Toulouse on loan for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old has endured a nightmare 12 months since joining Villa in a £7million deal from Gent.

Kalinic has not made a first-team appearance since last February and has now made the temporary move to France in order to boost his chances of making Croatia's Euro 2020 squad.

Villa signed Pepe Reina on loan earlier this month following the loss of Tom Heaton to a season-ending knee injury.

Boss Dean Smith also has Orjan Nyland and Jed Steer on the books.

Smith said: "Lovre needs game time. He's a Croatian national goalkeeper, with his country qualifying for the Euros.

"He wants to get that opportunity to play in the summer. I've got Pepe and Orjan, who's been in fine form for us, so his chances are limited here."
