The claret and blues overcame a very youthful Wolves side on Wednesday night setting up a clash with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in the last eight.

However, Liverpool are scheduled to be playing in the World Club Cup in the same week as the quarter-final fixtures in December with the Reds boss demanding the fixture schedulers come to his club’s assistance – threatening to quit the competition otherwise.

They are in discussions with the EFL and it appears the tie may be staged in the second week on January, when the semi-final first legs were due to be played, with the last-four games being shunted back a week due to the congestion.

Elmohamady, however, has his mind set on a return to Wembley. “This club needs to start winning competitions again,” said the Egyptian. “We all want to get back to Wembley and to win a trophy with Aston Villa would be massive.

“The manager spoke to us before the game about the history of the club in this competition, winning it five times.

“It would mean a lot. This is a huge club in England and around the world. It would be fantastic to go through and win this competition.”
