Villa travel to reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday before hosting current leaders Liverpool the following weekend.

Goalkeeper Heaton said: “They are widely regarded as the two best teams in the league and we are playing them back-to-back – that is what the Premier League is all about.

“There is no fear or worry there. It is just a hunger to go and embrace the games, to go and put our stamp on them and try and get the wins.

“Of course, it is going to be tough. We know how much quality they gave got. They are both great sides.

“But we have a lot of quality here. These are the kind of teams you want to go up against. We have seen already this season it can be done. We just want to make sure we give ourselves the best chance.”

Villa head to the Etihad to face City having taken seven points from their last three league matches.

England international Heaton has the most top-flight experience in the squad after joining in an £8million summer move from Burnley.

He said: “You are looking at it game-by-game, in terms of trying to get wins and points on the board.

“There is no set target other than the obvious one. The first priority is to stay in the division, of course.

“Beyond that I don’t think there should be any limitations. It is certainly turning out to be a tight league this year. There should not be a restriction, mentally, in terms of how far we can go.

“Yes, there will be challenges along the way but if we hit them head-on, who knows?”

Tom Heaton was talking at a media event for his Precision Infinite Heat Gloves, part of the Precision Heat range, designed alongside the Aston Villa and England goalkeeper.
