Dean Smith: Wesley will show worth to Aston Villa

Dean Smith claims a ‘fired-up’ Wesley is ready to prove his critics wrong when Villa head to Norwich on Saturday.

The Brazilian striker has experienced an inconsistent start to life in the Premier League since his record £22million summer move from Club Brugge.

Wesley was criticised for his performance in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Burnley and Smith says the 22-year-old has since acknowledged he was below-par.

But he claims he is eager to put that right against the Canaries.

“I spoke to Wes,” said Smith.

“I didn’t think he had his best game on Saturday and he would be the first to admit that, he certainly did to me.

“He knows Keinan (Davis) is pushing him. There is only a few months difference between their ages.

“Wes will get affected by not playing well like anybody. But I think he is the sort of character, from what I have seen in training this week, who will want to go and prove people wrong.”
