Tom Heaton staying positive despite tough start for Aston Villa
Tom Heaton claims Villa’s mood remains upbeat despite losing three of their first four Premier League matches.
Dean Smith’s newly-promoted team have entered the international break placed 18th in the early season table.
But goalkeeper Heaton, one of 12 summer signings, insists there is no sense of concern in the dressing room.
“Overall it has been a good first month, albeit we have won one game and been beaten in three,” he said. “There are a lot of positives to take from it which we can use moving forward. I don’t think there is any real fear, no worry. There are building blocks being put in place here.”
Heaton, who has joined team-mate Tyrone Mings on international duty, believes supporters remain firmly behind the team.
The 33-year-old joined in an £8million move from Burnley last month and said: “One thing I have been blown away by is the support of the club.
“People talk about it but the support again on Saturday (at Crystal Palace) was incredible again. I think that will be a major factor.
“What I have noticed is a real positive momentum on the back of the club coming up last year.
“You can feel fans are behind the team. We use that on times like Saturday, when we were down to 10 men and giving it a real go. They are part of that.”
Villa return to action when they host West Ham on September 16.
