This is the first time Phillips has been included in the squad since the UEFA Nations League qualifiers against Albania and Israel last November.

The midfielder, who has started every league game so far this season for Slaven Bilic’s baggies, made appearances in those games, both as a substitute.

Former Shrewsbury and Walsall goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray, now Portsmouth’s number one, has also been called up for the first time.

Former Baggies boss Steve Clarke has decided to omit Albion winger Oliver Burke, who has struggled for minutes under Bilic so far this season.

This is despite Burke scoring a dramatic late winner against Cyprus in the opening qualifying fixture in June, which was Clarke’s first game.

Both games take place at Hampden Park with the match against Russia on Friday, September 6, and the game against Belgium on Monday, September 9.
