The Egyptian full-back played a key role in Villa's promotion push last season, setting up the opener at Wembley during the club's 2-1 win over Derby in the play-off final.

He's gone on to start each of the club's Premier League encounters so far this season.

The 31-year-old has featured 89 times in claret and blue since joining in 2017 - scoring twice and registering 13 assists.

"[I'm] absolutely delighted to extend my contract for another year." he said.

"I'm very happy, I'm looking forward to the next two years.

"Hopefully we can have another successful year. It's been a difficult start for us, but we played really well in our last two games, sometimes I think we were unlucky with some mistakes. But I think if we're playing well the luck will come at one point.

"[The] Premier League is always a big league, the best league in the world so the main target for us this year is to just finish as high as we can in the table."

In other news, promising attacking midfielder Callum O'Hare has joined Coventry City on-loan for the season.
