The midfield ace knows there will be plenty of expectation on the shoulders of Dean Smith’s team, for what is the club’s first home match in the top flight since 2016.

Villa have sold a record 30,000 season tickets since winning promotion through the play-offs in May.

And though McGinn knows the Cherries will be far from easy opponents, he knows the onus will be on Villa - beaten 3-1 at Tottenham last weekend - to attack.

“At Villa Park this year, the supporters will be expecting,” he said.

“We need to go and put on a performance for them but most importantly we need to get a win.

“It’s so important to get that first win on the board. We are under no illusions, it will be difficult.

“Bournemouth are an established Premier League team now and they are very difficult to play against.

“Hopefully we can go and show that we can be an established team. We will respect as much as we did Spurs but we need to try and take our game to them.”
