Villa have had a bid accepted for the 33-year-old goalkeeper this week, in a deal worth a £8m with add-ons.

The Villans have been keen to bolster in goal to provide competition for Jed Steer, with interest also held in Jack Butland and Neil Etheridge this summer.

Dean Smith had a bid turned down for Cardiff stopper Etheridge, and also found Stoke unwilling to budge on their £23million valuation of Butland.

Steer only recently signed a new deal at the club following his play-off heroics last season - in which he saved two spot kicks in the semi-final second leg shoot-out against West Brom.

Should terms be agreed between the club and Heaton, the Englishman will be set to follow midfielder Marvelous Nakamba into B6.

The Zimbabwean is poised to complete his move to the Midlands from Club Brugge after Villa agreed a fee with the Belgian outfit.

Aston Villa's summer spending has already reached unprecedented levels, totalling an outlay well over £100m following their dramatic promotion from the Championship.

One man who could leave Villa Park before next Thursday's deadline is Croatia international Lovre Kalinic.

The 29-year-old only joined in a £7million move from Gent in January but Villa are prepared to cut their losses, with Kalinic having struggled for form since heading to England.
