The Spaniard is preparing to make his debut in England’s top flight at the age of 28, after stepping from rivals Blues earlier in the summer.

Jota also played for Brentford in the Championship but believes the physical nature of the second tier did not provide the best showcase for his talents.

He said: “I was playing some years in the Championship, it’s true that it’s a harder league. More contact and less time with the ball.

“I was trying to find my space to have the ball, but maybe the Premier League has more quality games. I’m happy to be in this situation, I am very confident I can be a great player in the Premier League and counter the difference.

“It’s similar in Spain, in the second division you have less space, and in La Liga games are a bit more open and you can play more with the ball. I am very confident to do a great job.

“I’m very happy with Villa’s team principles, to take the ball, work with it, because that’s my favourite style to play. I feel more comfortable with this because the team always want to play that style.”

Jota became Villa’s first signing of the transfer window when he became the first player since Alan Curbishley to move from St Andrew’s to Villa Park.

Midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will become boss Dean Smith’s 11th new signing as he closes in on a move from Club Brugge.

The 25-year-old Zimbabwe international finally underwent a medical last night ahead of an £11million switch.
