Aston Villa hold on for possible Axel Tuanzebe return
Boss Dean Smith is prepared to play a waiting game with Villa still keen on re-signing Axel Tuanzebe on loan from Manchester United.
Earlier this week, Smith landed one his main transfer targets, with Tyrone Mings joining in a £20million deal, with add-ons, from Bournemouth.
Mings and Tuanzebe were integral to Villa winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season.
And Smith is eager to see the duo reunited in claret and blue next season.
Tuanzebe’s performances in the Championship last term have led to him joining United on their pre-season tour, which sees them travel to Australia, China and Singapore.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to want to run the rule over the England under-21 centre-back in games against Perth Glory and Leeds United.
Tuanzebe inked a three-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months at Old Trafford just last week.
But an option to rejoin Villa on-loan remains on the table – with the lure of regular first-team football believed to appeal to both the player and United hierarchy.
Villa have also held talks with former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who is available on a free transfer.
But a return to Villa Park for the 33-year-old is not thought to be close at this stage.
Meanwhile, Egyptian winger Trezequet has been linked with a move to Villa.
The 24-year-old currently plays for Kasimpasa in Turkey.
