Aston Villa blog: What a day!
I’m writing this just after arriving home from Wembley and I’m in a very good mood to say the least.
I think the game was just about what we all expected – it was a tight, tense affair with little to choose between the two sides.
I think we were the team that tried to win the game though, with Derby seemingly more intent to sit off and soak up pressure.
The opening goal came from the very impressive Anwar El Ghazi, who I felt beforehand was going to be the key as his direct running scares the life out of teams.
They managed to keep Jack Grealish quiet for long spells and the second goal was going to be critical – it came from super John McGinn after a error from their keeper, much to the delight of the travelling masses.
As usual though, we have to live life on the edge.
After losing Tyrone Mings, as well as a goal, my nerves were really rattling for the final few minutes.
But we held on and are now back where we belong in the Premier League.
I’ve enjoyed the Championship and will miss it, but due to the way football is now financed, to be able to properly compete you have to be in the top league.
It’s time to kick on and see where this giant of a club can go.
Enjoy your summer Villa fans – I know I will!
See you all next season. UTV!
