The FA have confirmed Bamford will serve the suspension with immediate effect, having been found guilty of successfully deceiving the match officials in Sunday’s extraordinary 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Bamford tumbled to the ground in the 22-man melee which followed Mateusz Klich’s controversial opener for the hosts.

Referee Stuart Attwell promptly showed El Ghazi a straight red card, yet it was subsequently rescinded by the FA - and Bamford charged instead - when TV replays showed the Villa man had made no contact with his opponent.

The FA claim Bamford initially denied the charge but was found guilty by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

Though Leeds dispute that version, the club has confirmed they sought a hearing to contest the charge, which was turned down.

A Leeds statement read: “The club felt that given the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the extraordinary act of sportsmanship which saw our head coach Marcelo Bielsa demand our team to allow Aston Villa to score an uncontested equaliser, we could have a sensible discussion around the sanction.

“We acknowledge that the FA panel did not feel that to be reasonable and the club therefore joins Patrick in accepting the two-match ban.

“Bamford will miss our final game of the 2018/19 campaign away to Ipswich Town as well as the first leg of our play-off semi-final.”

Klich's goal, scored when Villa were expecting the hosts to kick the ball out of play due to an injury to Jonathan Kodjia, sparked chaotic scenes.

Both clubs have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players.

Leeds boss Bielsa ultimately instructed his players to let Albert Adomah score an uncontested equaliser for the hosts.
