Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings escapes FA punishment following 'stamp'
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has escaped FA action after an apparent stamp on Nelson Oliveira which left the Reading player with gruesome facial wounds.
Mings, who was making his Villa debut after a deadline day loan move from Bournemouth, caught the Royals with his boot in the goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
However, Reading confirmed Mings would face no further action as the incident had been seen by the match officials at the time.
A post on the club's official Twitter account said: "As a club, we ensured that the referee and the FA were fully aware of an incident during Saturday's match which caused injury to our striker, Nelson Oliveira.
"But as the incident was seen by the ref at the time, we understand no retrospective action can or will be taken by the FA."
Mings apologised immediately after the match but Oliveira's wife was among those calling for the defender to receive a lengthy ban after her 27-year-old husband suffered two deep cuts and a suspected broken nose.
Oliveira tweeted yesterday: "Finally at home. I want to thank the entire medical team at @readingfc and the Royal Berkshire Hospital who helped me brilliantly during these tough days.
"I have no words to say how grateful I am."
