Aston Villa chasing Swansea's Leroy Fer

Villa have made a late deadline day move for Swansea midfielder Leroy Fer.

The 29-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, could complete a permanent switch to the Midlands in the final hours of the window.

Dean Smith has been eager to bolster his midfield this month and has moved for Fer after attempts to sign Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden ended in frustration.

Fer impressed in the Swans 3-0 FA Cup win at Villa earlier in the month and is seen as the ideal man to add a physical presence in the middle of the park.

Villa completed a loan move for Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings earlier in the day, while the £4.4million signing of French full-back Frederic Guilbert from Caen is also set to be confirmed.

The 24-year-old will return to the Ligue 1 club for the rest of the season, before joining Villa permanently in the summer.
